Happy International Women’s Day! This annual revelry is 100 years old today! A lot of us know what women are fighting against, especially here in America. I’m going to set that aside today and celebrate.
One of my favorite writers is Anaïs Nin. She was never really lauded as a feminist because her writing was erotic, and she was apolitical. I love her because she realized the power in being feminine.
Two of her quotes have always spoken to me:
“There were always in me, two women at least, one woman desperate and bewildered, who felt she was drowning and another who would leap into a scene, as upon a stage, conceal her true emotions because they were weaknesses, helplessness, despair, and present to the world only a smile, an eagerness, curiosity, enthusiasm, interest.”
“…I will always be the virgin-prostitute, the perverse angel, the two-faced sinister and saintly woman.”
Celebrate your womanhood!
