I agree that he’s allowed to say it, I suppose, (I’m actually not 100% sold on unbarred free speech.) but I really hope this idiot has at the very least lost himself an election with this.

What worries me is this party scapegoating this guy when they do have the same views, but just know how to say them so they sound easier to digest.

They are not going after Akins for what he said but that he said it publicly and it hurts their chances of winning the Senate seat in Missouri and other close seats around the country.

“In spite of the massive public outcry from the right over Akin’s comments, the official GOP platform committee drafted a provision Monday supporting a “human life amendment” that would outlaw abortion without specifying exemptions for rape or incest. The platform reads:

Faithful to the ‘self-evident’ truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children.”

And then there’s this from Sharon Barnes, a member of the Missouri state Republican central committee:

“Ms. Barnes echoed Mr. Akin’s statement that very few rapes resulted in pregnancy, adding that “at that point, if God has chosen to bless this person with a life, you don’t kill it.” “That’s more what I believe he was trying to state,” she said. “He just phrased it badly.”

And this lady thinks she has clarified the matter?
