What’s Halloween without Zombie Obama?

A quiet one without press releases.

Va. Republicans Condemn Loudoun GOP E-mail with Image of Obama Shot in the Head

You know what made me shake my head? Mark Sell’s (Chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Committee) apology:

“The Loudoun County Republican Committee yesterday sent an email to its members that represented a light-hearted attempt to inject satire humor into the Halloween holiday. Apparently, some individuals have interpreted an image of Barack Obama that appeared within the email as intending to portray the president as a victim of violent crime. Nothing could be further from the truth, and we deeply and sincerely apologize to the president and anyone who viewed the image if that was the impression it left.”

I swear to God that apology was as real as a Canal Street Chanel. We’ve all run into these types of apologies before. The fake “I’m sorry you felt hurt by what I said” instead of the real “I’m sorry I hurt you with what I said” apology. It basically blames the one that was hurt.

So why bother apologizing when you’re not sorry? Seriously. Just own it. Say, “Yeah, I thought it was frickin’ hilarious.” It’s a whole hell of a lot more believable then that half-assed attempt at damage control.

It’s good that Virginia GOPers condemned it quickly. Chairman Pat Mullins of the VA GOP said,

“The disgusting image used today on a mass e-mail has no place in our politics. Ever.”

However, considering his questionable judgment, they should have taken a look at Sell’s statement before it was released.

I have to admit. The e-mail message that accompanied the picture cracked me up:

“LCRC members and Republican candidates: We are going to vanquish the zombies with clear thinking conservative principles and a truckload of Republican candy. . . . It’s fun and a great way to represent our candidates to a ton of voters (and their kids) just before the election.”

Sending that image via e-mail over easily-interceptable networks is not the best example of clear thinking. And I don’t think a Conservative principle is to portray the POTUS with a bullet in his head. So basically, they shot themselves in the head. Twice.

Even though I have an insatiable sweet tooth, it’s going to take a lot more than Republican candy to vanquish this zombie. I wouldn’t eat it anyway. It’s probably Candy Corn. Which should be illegal in all 50 states and U.S. territories.
