My Sonogram Can Beat up Your Sonogram

This sonogram illustrates how I feel about the pre-abortion requirement.

Texas’ Dueling Sonogram Bills Could Delay Law

Which sonogram bill will make it to the governor’s desk?

House Version:

  • 24-hour wait period
  • Would listen to a description of fetal development and heartbeat
  • May decline viewing the sonogram
  • but she won’t be told she has the option (of course)

Senate Version:

  • 2-hour wait period
  • May decline viewing the sonogram or listening to heartbeat
  • Would still have to listen to a description of fetal development
  • unless she is a rape or incest victim or there is serious fetal abnormality

I suppose the Senate version is the least insensitive. We’re still talking about a forced medical procedure. One of them is going to end up on the governor’s desk. I guess we can hope for the least crappy one?

Yoo hoo, Scotty

Wisconsin Senate Democratic Leader Asks Walker to Meet

Scotty’s numbers are tanking, and voters are launching recall efforts. I guess the Wisconsin 14 figures this is a good time to have a pow wow with Walker.

“It’s very difficult because I realize even though we didn’t plan it this way, people are resting their hopes on our decisions,” Jauch said. “I know that at the point we return some people are going to be terribly let down. We have to communicate with them that we stand together.”

That is why you meet him in Illinois. Since he’ll never agree to that, dig in your heels. There is a ton of opposition to his plan, especially when union members have already agreed to the cuts. I don’t know how long he can stand this because people are growing increasingly pissed off…at him.

Stay strong.

Wanting to Tap That

White House Considers Tapping Oil Reserves

The revolution in the Middle East and the crisis in Libya is pushing prices of oil past $105 a barrel. The rise in prices is hurting our economic recovery. Is it time to access our emergency reserves?

One of the things I’ve supported in the past is energy independence. Since our addiction to oil rivals that of junkies, why not make it as a cheap as possible. Plus, our interests in the Middle East could be curtailed if we have our own resources.

After the gulf spill, I’m hesitant. Something like that should never happen again. Safety regulations were tossed aside like litter on the highway. And that sickens me.

I don’t know. Considering the prices of gas I’ve seen around the world, we have it pretty good. If I don’t have to see pictures like the one above again, I’ll pay $10/gallon. Hell, I’d even consider biking the 13 miles to work. We’re stewards of this earth. We need to be better at it.
